The biennial Beijing auto show has attracted more than 1,600 exhibitors to showcase 1,179 models during its 10-day run from April 25 through May 4. The show features 112 global premieres, 46 concept cars and 147 new-energy vehicles. Below are the top picks of China Daily's motoring editors.

Chery Tiggo 7

Chery Automobile's large-size flagship SUV Tiggo 7 made its debut and its market launch is set for the second half of 2016. Applying the idea of "Life in Motion", its exterior curves are designed into ripple curves around a diamond.

Its Cloudrive 2.0 smart connectivity system further enhances the driving experience. The Tiggo also features the debut of the intelligent air conditioning system, which ensures the ultimate comfort of both driver and passengers. The new SUV is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine, and the transmission options include six-speed manual, continuously variable transmission, or dual clutch transmission.

Geely Emgrand GS

Geely Automobile's city crossover Emgrand GS is the first vehicle built on the Chinese carmaker's FE compact car platform and was jointly developed with Volvo Cars. The powertrain options include a 1.3-liter turbocharged or 1.8-liter natural aspiration engine, with either a six-speed manual or dual clutch transmission. Having the clearance and roominess often found in an SUV, it is tuned by LeanNova in Europe for both accurate steering and pasenger comfort. The infotainment system has an eight-inch touch screen and smart connectivity functions on board. The safety configurations include Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Emergency Braking.

Changan CS95

The Chongqing-based carmaker debuted its mid-size seven-seater SUV CS95 and plans a market launch for the model by the end of this year.

Its front grille design is embedded with LED headlights, much like the compact CS75. LED taillights are also installed at the rear, right above the two exhaust tips. The four-wheel-drive car features 20-inch aluminum wheel rims, which provide both a muscular look and more sportiness.

The seats are set in a 2-3-2 layout in the 4.95-meter long body with a 2.8-meter wheelbase. It will be powered by a turbocharged 2-liter engine outputting a maximum of 160 kW, and 350 Nm peak torque, with six-speed automatic transmission. A hybrid version will also be available soon.

Phideon Premiere showroom

The Phideon is a new premium class saloon that will be launched in China in the third quarter of 2016. The car, which is about five meters long, was derived - with only minor changes-almost directly from the C Coup＆#65533;＆#65533; GTE concept car that made its world premiere last year in Shanghai. The all-wheel drive car 3.0 TSI 4MOTION is available with a V6 TSI that delivers an output of 220 kW. The new saloon will also be available as a 2.0 TSI (four-cylinder and front-wheel drive). A model with a plug-in hybrid drive is also planned for the future.

Faraday Future Zero 1 Concept

The fully electric concept supercar Faraday Future Zero 1 made its Asian premiere at Auto China 2016. The concept car is engineered on Variable Platform Architecture and is designed for the racetrack.

The electric motor outputs more than 1,000 horsepower, which helps the car accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 3 seconds and reach a top speed of 320 km/h. A slot in the center of the steering wheel is reserved for the driver's cellphone. The United States' company has been working since January with Chinese internet company LeEco's supercar division on the next generation of smart mobility transportation.

Xenia R7

State-owned carmaker FAW's Chinese brand Xenia R7 boasts a 2.6-meter wheelbase in a 4.3-meter long sub-compact SUV. Launched on the market on Wednesday in Bejing, the new model is aimed at the younger generation born in the 1980s and '90s.

FAW's self-developed 1.6-liter engine has a maximum output of 85 kW and torque peaks at 155 Nm. A 100km journey consumes 6.2 liters of fuel. The back seats can be laid down to expand the trunk capacity to 1,350 liters. The ＆#118alue-for-money model comes with a range of extras, including multi-function steering wheel, automatic air con and genuine leather seats.

GAC GS8

GAC Motor showcased a C-class SUV, the GS8, at the Beijing auto show. Made of high-strength steel, it sports the automaker's new-generation 320T engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The i-4WD system ensures the model performs well on different terrains. The full-view parking assist system helps the driver better handle the model. The SUV allows the driver to start it without a key and it also boasts the latest-generation ESP, a 10.1-inch control display and smart, automatic air conditioners. The automaker said the model will hit the market later this year.

Acura CDX

The compact SUV is the first locally-made model from Acura, the premium brand from Honda.

The CDX is produced at Honda's joint venture in Guangzhou and it will hit the market in July, with presales prices ranging from 250,000 yuan ($38,500) to 300,000 yuan. It will go head-to-head with the Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1.

The Acura CDX has a sharp exterior design, which makes it look very dynamic. It comes with a 1.5-liter turbo engine and eight-speed DCT gearbox. With a maximum engine power of 134kW and peak torque of 240Nm, the SUV accelerates from zero to 100km/h in only 6.8 seconds.

It consumes 6.8 liters of gasoline per 100km. The model is 4496mm long, 1840mm wide and 1615mm high. Its wheelbase is 2660mm.

Cowin X3

The Chery Automobile backed carmaker Cowin is to take orders for its first SUV X3 from June. The vehicle is primarily designed for Chinese college students. The compact model, which features an external spare tire, is powered by a 1.6-liter engine with either continuously variable or five-speed manual transmission. A 10.1-inch touch screen and seven-inch LCD dashboard are installed. Its icar 1.0 connectivity system is capable of 32 functions beyond simple internet access. The system also allows voice control, cell phone app remote control and smart assistance.
